Imagen evento EspañaThe Spanish Alliance for Investing in Children organised the event “Investing in Children in electoral programmes” on 15 December in Madrid.

The Alliance introduced the European Commission’s Recommendation to representatives from different Spanish political parties. Gabriel González-Bueno, coordinator of the Spanish Alliance and UNICEF Spain Domestic Policy and Advocacy Officer, explained that the Recommendation “is a framework for developing national policies to combat child poverty and promoting the welfare of children, at a time when the numbers of child poverty and exclusion are growing in many European countries, often by above the rest of the population”.

Carlos Martínez-Almeida, President of Plataforma de Infancia, proposed the creation of a State Pact for Children. “Children’s investment in Spain has been reduced 14,6% since 2010. Our country invests only 1,4% of its GDP in children, compared with 2,3% in other European countries”, he said and called on all Autonomous Communities to share more information about their investment in children.

At the event, the Spanish Alliance also presented the video of the speech given by Natalia Gonzalez at the Fourth Annual Convention of the European Platform Against Poverty and Social Exclusion (EPAP).

Event’s participants included as well members from the Spanish Alliance: SOS Children’s Villages, CERML, EAPN, Montessori without Borders Foundation, Save the Children Spain, FEDAIA, Red Cross, Plataforma de Infancia, Fundación Secretariado Gitano and Fundación Proyecto Solidario. Fundación Esplai and Cáritas were also present.
